Jeffrey Garnder
Whitefield Academy

A standout hitter on the baseball team as well as a forward for the Wildcats’ basketball team, Jeff is a member of the Beta Club at Whitefield and the youth Bible study at Highview Baptist Church. He has high academic standards, holding a 4.0 GPA. “Through his dedication and hard work, he leads by example, inspiring and encouraging classmates and teammates alike, both on the field and off ,” says his aunt, Pat Anderson. Voted one of the top 50 Kentucky high school baseball players in the coaches’ poll, he batted .515 and had 41 RBIs in 2009. After 13 games this season, he had an average of .459 and 14 RBIs.

Grace Nafziger
Presentation Academy

Grace has been a mainstay on the swim team at Presentation, specializing in butterfly and freestyle events, and swims competitively with Cardinal Aquatics. She carries a 3.74 GPA and has volunteered for more than 300 hours of community service. She has volunteered for the Science Center, Sister Visitor, and her school, among others, and made two mission trips to Appalachia. “Grace is a competent, capable, intelligent, and focused young lady with tremendous potential,” says her nominator and social studies teacher, Gary Householder. “She works well in groups and can be counted upon to achieve high standards with minimal supervision. She sets and maintains high ethical and moral standards, and always has time to help her friends.”

In August 2010, one boy and one girl will be chosen from the 2010 Class Athletes of the Month to be Athlete of the Year. The winning boy and girl will each receive a $1,000 college scholarship.
